Two hockey games. Four teams playing for the second night in a row. One playoff baseball game. Tonight’s card is smaller than Tuesday’s, but the details still matter.
Our first stop is the NHL goalie news. Our baseball review is Brewers–Dodgers under 7.5, with a firm price ceiling and several checks still open. These are research watchlists, not claims that we have proved a betting edge.
Research snapshot: October 14, 2026, at noon Eastern (EDT). Public odds pages and official matchup feeds were refreshed at noon. Prices below are attributed public-page quotes, not verified offers inside your sportsbook account. Lineups, injuries and prices can change before the games. Pass if you cannot verify the exact market.
Tonight’s main slate
The official NHL schedule lists Montreal at Washington at 7:30 p.m. ET and Dallas at Colorado at 8:30 p.m. ET. The MLB schedule lists Milwaukee at Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET. Use those official starts; some public betting-page time labels differ.
All four hockey teams played Tuesday. Montreal beat Buffalo 4–3, Washington lost 4–2 at Carolina, and Colorado beat Dallas 3–2 in Dallas. Now the Stars and Avalanche meet again in Denver. The NHL’s October 13 results establish the back-to-back spots; that does not tell us by itself whether tonight will be high- or low-scoring.
Canadiens–Capitals: verify the goalies before pricing the total
RotoWire’s noon lineup page labels Jakub Dobes Confirmed for Montreal and Charlie Lindgren Expected for Washington. Those are the service’s labels, not our independent team confirmations. Montreal’s official preview says there is no morning skate; the official lineup will come closer to puck drop.
The NHL matchup feed has Montreal at 3–2–1 and Washington at 3–3–0. Dobes has a .856 save percentage across three appearances; Lindgren has .931 in one. Those are tiny samples. They help explain why the starter matters, but they cannot support a confident scoring forecast on their own.
BetMGM’s October 14 preview, published at 9:27 a.m. in an unspecified publisher time zone, quotes Montreal +110 and Washington -130 on the two-way moneyline. Puck lines are Montreal +1.5 at -220 and Washington -1.5 at +180. It lists a 6.5 total, but its table does not clearly attach the two prices to over and under, so we will not assign them.
Our action: wait. Both teams are on back-to-backs, and one starter remains projected. A low-scoring Lindgren performance could upset an over argument; tired defending or an uneven Dobes outing could upset an under. No total pick until the starter, side-specific price and lineups are clear.
RotoWire also lists Mike Matheson and Pierre-Luc Dubois day-to-day. Treat those as availability checks, not confirmed absences. We did not verify a usable current sportsbook player-prop quote, so there is no forced shots or goalscorer selection.
Stars–Avalanche: yesterday’s goaltending is not tonight’s
RotoWire labels Casey DeSmith Confirmed and Scott Wedgewood Expected. Its page lists Roope Hintz and Cale Makar day-to-day. Dallas’ official guide says Wyatt Johnston will miss Wednesday’s game with illness.
The NHL feed gives Dallas a 1.67 team goals-against average over six games, versus Colorado’s 3.17. But DeSmith and Wedgewood have only one appearance each. Do not carry Jake Oettinger’s .944 season save percentage into a forecast for a different goalie.
| Market | Dallas | Colorado / other side |
|---|---|---|
| Moneyline | +125 | Colorado -150 |
| Puck line | +1.5 (-190) | Colorado -1.5 (+155) |
| Total 6 | Over -110 | Under -110 |
Source: BetMGM’s Colorado team page. Its table explicitly labels over and under. These are public quotes, with no account-level price or last-update guarantee.
Our action: watch the total, do not bet it yet. Dallas’ early defensive numbers give an under argument something to examine. The goalie change, Colorado’s scoring threats and unresolved lineup news give it reasons to fail. We would not pay worse than -110 for under 6 for a further review, and would pass at 5.5 under this plan. Six goals would push an ordinary two-way total of 6; five or fewer wins the under. This ceiling is a research guardrail, not a fair-price estimate or a bet signal.
Brewers–Dodgers: under 7.5 stays on the review list
MLB lists Robert Gasser and Blake Snell as probable pitchers, not a guarantee they will throw the first pitch. MLB’s regular-season feeds show Gasser at a 3.87 ERA in 20 starts and Snell at 1.90 in nine starts. Those are regular-season figures, not postseason performance or tonight’s run forecast.
BetMGM’s Dodgers page quotes Milwaukee +150, Los Angeles -185, Brewers +1.5 at -155 and Dodgers -1.5 at +125. Its total is 7.5: over -105, under -115, checked at noon.
Review price: under 7.5 at -115 or better. Do not chase under 7 under this plan. A win-or-lose -115 cash single needs about 53.49% wins to break even. We have not established that chance. Snell’s run prevention gives the under a reason to review, but his nine-start sample is limited and the bet also depends on Gasser, both bullpens and the batting orders.
Still needed: final starting pitchers, confirmed batting orders, current injury availability and which relievers are available after recent workloads. No wager is triggered by this article while those checks remain incomplete.
Why it could lose: early walks, a short start, defensive mistakes, a home run or a tired bullpen can turn a quiet game into eight runs quickly. Extra innings can add runs too. A small total is not a small risk.
Check the time scope and pitcher rules
The MGM Springfield BetMGM house rules, revised March 12, 2026, include overtime in pregame hockey moneyline, puck line and total markets unless marked Regular Time; a shootout adds one goal to the winner and total. Regulation-only markets use a different finish line.
The same document includes extra innings in baseball totals and distinguishes action from listed-pitcher bets. Those are Massachusetts venue rules, not verified Ontario rules for your account. Confirm your offer’s scope and pitcher-change treatment before acting. Today’s hockey market explainer shows why similar-looking labels can settle differently.
Football and NBA: a watchlist, not extra bets to fill the card
ESPN’s college scoreboard lists Kennesaw State at Missouri State at 7:30 p.m. ET and Western Kentucky at Sam Houston at 8 p.m. ET. Current prices and availability were not verified for a selection.
The NBA preseason slate includes Brooklyn–Miami and Charlotte–Boston at 7:30 p.m. ET, with Denver–Clippers at 10:30 p.m. ET. Check participation and minutes plans before reviewing props. The NFL scoreboard has no game today.
Keep the card short when the facts are incomplete. Once you place a supported bet elsewhere, BetSlip Live can help you import it, review the legs and follow supported live progress. Coverage varies by event and market. The app tracks bets; it does not accept wagers.
