This is a Saturday built for changing channels. Alabama–Tennessee takes over the afternoon, fourteen NHL games stretch into the night, and baseball joins the party after dinner.
Our first hockey stop is Toronto, where the Islanders’ plus-money price deserves a look if Ilya Sorokin starts. Later, Boston’s trip to Los Angeles offers a useful reminder: a rest advantage can matter without making the rested team a good purchase.
Odds and team news checked at 12:07 p.m. EDT, October 17, 2026. Prices are attributed public quotes and can move. Today’s selections remain watchlist angles while key availability is unsettled.
Islanders–Leafs: the goalie makes this interesting
The Islanders visit Toronto at 7 p.m. ET. New York is 3–3–1, and the Leafs are 3–3–2. Neither record shouts “must bet.” The more interesting difference is in net.
Sorokin has a .934 save percentage and a 1.81 goals-against average across five appearances. Toronto’s projected starter, Sergei Bobrovsky, is at .896 and 3.34 across five. Those are early-season numbers, not permanent labels, but they give us a reason to look at the underdog.
RotoWire projects both goalies to start. It also lists John Tavares out for Toronto, Alexander Romanov out for New York and Mathew Barzal on injured reserve. There are missing pieces on both sides, not a clean injury advantage for either team.
| Market | Islanders | Maple Leafs / other side |
|---|---|---|
| Moneyline | +110 | -135 |
| Puck line | +1.5 (-220) | -1.5 (+180) |
| Total 6 | Over -118 | Under -102 |
At those BetMGM prices, the Islanders moneyline at +110 or better is our angle to revisit if Sorokin is confirmed. At a shorter price, we would leave it alone. The goalie angle is interesting, but we are still waiting on the news before taking it further.
Why could it lose? Toronto has scored 28 goals in eight games. A strong goalie can still have a rough night against that attack, and Romanov’s absence does not help New York’s defensive options. The Islanders’ plus-money payout comes with a real chance of losing.
The -220 on New York +1.5 is not a cheap substitute. It buys room for a one-goal defeat, but demands much more money at risk for the same target profit. The moneyline and puck line solve different problems.
Bruins–Kings: do not buy the rest story at any price
Boston played in Anaheim on Friday and now heads to Los Angeles for a 9 p.m. ET start. The Kings last played Tuesday. The schedule gives Los Angeles more rest; that part is straightforward.
The harder part is paying for it. BetMGM’s Kings page quotes Los Angeles -145 and Boston +118. The puck lines are Kings -1.5 at +165 and Bruins +1.5 at -200. The six-goal total is over -102 and under -118.
We are passing on Los Angeles at -145. The Kings are 0–3–2 and allowing 4.20 goals per game. That price needs about 59.2% wins to break even on a cash bet. A rested team facing a tired opponent does not, by itself, establish that chance.
Boston’s 6–2–0 start is encouraging, but its goaltending picture matters tonight. RotoWire projects Michael DiPietro for the Bruins and Darcy Kuemper for the Kings. It lists Pavel Zacha day-to-day for Boston and Kevin Fiala on injured reserve for Los Angeles. Neither projected goalie is a confirmed starter in this preview.
There is no automatic Boston bet hiding inside the Kings pass, either. The Bruins have the back-to-back to handle, and DiPietro’s .912 save percentage comes from only two appearances. Kuemper’s .847 across four could improve quickly. For us, the matchup is more interesting to watch than to add to the card.
Alabama–Tennessee: a great afternoon game, an expensive favorite
Alabama and Tennessee enter their 3:30 p.m. ET broadcast window at 5–1. Tennessee’s preview highlights 25 sacks and 228.3 rushing yards per game. That gives the Vols a clear route to making this uncomfortable: disrupt the passer and keep moving the ball on the ground.
There is a price warning here. BetMGM’s Friday preview quoted Alabama -7 at -140, with Tennessee +7 at +105. Those are Friday’s published prices, not a promise of what is available now. We would not pay -140 to lay seven on that basis.
A seven-point Alabama win would push that spread under standard push rules, while an eight-point win would cover it. Paying extra for the number still raises the cost of being wrong. Alabama can also blunt Tennessee’s pressure with quick throws or take the run game away with an early lead.
This stays off our betting card while the final availability picture is unclear. The rivalry is worth watching without manufacturing a side or a player prop to go with it.
Keep the rest of the night simple
Boston and Pittsburgh are the two teams from Friday’s NHL slate playing again today. Pittsburgh visits Vegas at 10 p.m. ET. That is another rest spot to notice, not another bet we need to force.
The Rays visit Cleveland at 8:08 p.m. ET, with Nick Martinez and Shawn Armstrong listed as probable pitchers. We are leaving baseball off this card rather than adding a selection just to fill the evening.
The hockey moneylines here refer to full-game results, not regulation-only markets. BetMGM’s Springfield rules, for example, include overtime and the deciding shootout goal in standard pregame hockey markets. Those are that venue’s terms; the rules where you bet govern your ticket.
Today’s takeaway: keep the Islanders on the watchlist at +110 or better with Sorokin starting, and resist paying for a favorite simply because the matchup has an easy story.
Once a supported bet is placed elsewhere, BetSlip Live can help you import the slip, review the legs and follow supported live progress. Coverage varies by event and market. Enjoy the Saturday slate without spending all of it refreshing separate box scores.
