Connor McDavid is making two assists look routine. It is not a routine bet.
He has reached that mark in eight of eleven games this season, including four of his last five. That is the eye-catching side of Monday's shortlist. The quieter side is Alex Laferriere, whose shot count has stayed below three in seven of nine games.
One needs teammates to finish. The other needs a busy offensive role to stay quiet. Both deserve more thought than a green hit-rate row.

Read our takeCharts use official NHL current-season logs for McDavid and Laferriere. Each target is applied to recorded statistics, rather than to a changing set of historical sportsbook lines.
McDavid 2+ assists: a great run still needs two finishes
McDavid has 25 assists through eleven games. His last five assist counts are 1, 3, 3, 3, 2, from oldest to newest. You can see why this market jumps off the board.
But a two-assist ticket asks for more than a productive night. One goal and one assist would be an excellent game—and a losing ticket here. So would one assist on a pile of chances that his teammates could not finish.
The complete previous-season log brings the temperature down: 25 of 82 games reached two assists, about 30.5%. We are not treating an eight-of-eleven opening as a permanent new probability.
RotoWire projects McDavid on Edmonton's first power-play unit with Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Evan Bouchard. The opportunity is there. It still needs goals on which he earns an assist.
Our take: watch 2+ assists at +160 or better, with a fresh equivalent offer. The +164 reference clears our price limit. At +160, the break-even rate is about 38.5%; that is not an estimate of his true chance. A strong individual night, a quiet power play or good saves on the final shot can leave him short.
Detroit at Edmonton starts at 9:30 p.m. RotoWire expects John Gibson and Tristan Jarry in goal; neither is confirmed at this check. RotoWire lists Detroit’s Simon Edvinsson on injured reserve, but we are not turning one missing defenseman into a guaranteed scoring boost.
Both the Red Wings and Oilers last played Saturday. This is not a second-night fatigue angle.
Laferriere under 2.5: watch the role as closely as the shots
Laferriere has 16 shots across nine games. Seven finished with two or fewer, including his most recent game, when he recorded none. At this target, exactly two still wins the under.
His full previous-season log stayed under in 45 of 82 games, about 54.9%. That is much less dramatic than seven of nine, and a useful reminder that three shots is not an outlandish night for him.
The strongest reason to be careful is his opportunity. RotoWire projects him on the Kings' first power-play unit alongside Artemi Panarin and Adrian Kempe. Los Angeles also has Quinton Byfield listed day-to-day and Mats Zuccarello out. A changing lineup can change where the shots come from.
Our take: watch under 2.5 shots at +100 or better. The even-money reference meets that limit, but we still want a fresh equivalent price. Even money needs a 50% win rate to break even. That is a price hurdle, not proof that the recent hit rate will hold.
Three shots lose the under. A couple of power-play chances, more offensive responsibility or a night spent trying to catch up can get him there. We like the recent low count enough to watch, not enough to ignore the first-unit role.
Kings at Rangers starts at 7 p.m. RotoWire lists James Reimer as confirmed for New York and Darcy Kuemper as expected for Los Angeles. The Kings and Rangers both last played Saturday.
Keep the ticket exact
McDavid 2+ assists is not 2+ points. Laferriere under 2.5 shots is not under 1.5. Changing the target changes the question, even when the same player name is at the top of the slip.
These are full-game NHL player props. FanDuel Ontario's hockey rules include overtime unless a period or regulation limit is stated, and exclude player shootout statistics unless explicitly included. Standard team moneylines, puck lines and totals include overtime and the shootout settlement goal. Regulation-only markets are different contracts; the exact market and location terms govern.
That is the useful part of Trends, coming soon to BetSlip Live: bring the pattern and the price together, then leave room for judgment. Tonight gives us a playmaker worth watching and a shooting under that needs respect for the player's role. No forced parlay required.
